Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. Unfortunately, curcumin is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream. It helps to consume black pepper with it, which contains piperine… a natural substance that enhances the absorption of curcumin by 2000%. This is why whenever we use turmeric in our recipes, we always add a crack of pepper to increase the absorption of the anti-inflammatory properties.
Ingredients
3 Tbsp Changing Habits Gelatin mixed with 1 cup water (set aside to ‘bloom’ and thicken)
1/4 cup lemon juice
Crack of pepper
Honey to taste
1 tsp vanilla
270ml (1 cup) coconut cream
1 tsp Changing Habits Inflammation Ease Herbs
2 tsp Changing Habits Turmeric Powder
2 Tbsp Changing Habits Chia Seeds
Method
- Once the gelatin has bloomed, add it + coconut cream, inflammation ease, vanilla, turmeric, pepper and chia seeds to a small saucepan. Heat on a low heat until the gelatin has completely dissolved. Remove from the heat and stir in the honey to taste.
- Line a container or square tin with baking paper.
- Pour the mixture into the lined tin or container and place in the fridge to set.
- Once it’s ready, slice into squares.
