Inflammation isn’t just a buzzword in the diet world. It’s a very real health concern affecting approximately one in three Australians today.

There’s no need to fret yet, however! Let’s take a look at what inflammation is and how we can work towards reducing it naturally so you’re not reduced to a statistic.

What is Inflammation?

Inflammation is actually your body’s way to show you it loves you. It’s an essential bodily function designed to protect your precious cells from any further damage.

Caused by bacteria, viruses, damaged cells, or other irritants, inflammation shows up as:

  • Pain
  • Heat
  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Loss of function, in extreme cases
  • May even cause flu-like symptoms

While this all sounds unpleasant, it’s meant to give your body room to heal. Your body’s little warrior, the white blood cells, are sent to clear out dead cells and damaged tissue. The whole process is the initiation of tissue repair and healing.

However, autoimmune diseases like arthritis can cause inflammation as well. And this short-term inflammation can turn into a long-term problem.

Chronic inflammation can cause damage to your arteries, internal organs, and joints. If left unchecked, your body becomes more susceptible to diseases like cancer, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease.

So, how do we go about reducing inflammation naturally?

Inflammation is uncomfortable, to say the least, and no one wants to deal with it long-term. Let’s visit the four key ways you can reduce your inflammation, whether it’s just a short-term hindrance or a chronic issue.

Diet

Introducing foods into your diet that encourage the reduction of inflammation is an easy and enjoyable lifestyle change to make. Green leafy vegetables are rich in magnesium, a supplement that is often lacking in people with chronic inflammation. Red, blue, and purple foods like berries, grapes, and red cabbage have powerful antioxidants that encourage tissue repair and lower inflammation. And loading up on nuts at snack time can help to reduce inflammation too.

Have you heard of the benefits of celery juice yet? This powerful supplement removes toxins and debris from the liver and digestive tract, starving the bad bacteria, yeast overgrowth, and viruses along the way. All while helping good bacteria thrive. If you haven’t started supplementing with celery juice yet, its inflammatory and healing powers should definitely be your nudge to start.

Avoid foods that are high in sugar, deep fried foods, and red meat. All of these foods have been shown to increase inflammation and reduce your body’s ability to heal damaged tissues.

Reduce Stress

Stress has a funny way of making your body’s natural functions not so natural anymore. Unhealthy stress can decrease your body’s ability to heal and will increase any inflammation you currently have.

Try getting enough sleep. While sleep won’t reduce inflammation, it does help to reduce stress and increase your overall health. Which does, in turn, reduce inflammation.

Obesity and weight gain can cause inflammation (even though they are also a cause!). People who incorporate daily movement have lower inflammation than those that don’t. Plus, it stimulates your lymphatic system and circulation, increasing the movement of your white blood cells that are essential to healing inflammation.

Environmental stress can also cause excess “oxidative stress,” a natural phenomenon very similar to a piece of fruit rotting. While a natural occurrence that contributes to the natural ageing process, excess oxidative stress can lead to chronic illnesses like cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Scientific studies show that reducing oxidative stress helps to reduce inflammation. So, a little bit of “me time” can go a long way for your physical health and overall life expectancy.

Massages are also a great way to stimulate circulation and healing!

Supplementation

There are a few natural supplements that research has shown do wonders for reducing inflammation and its sometimes-painful symptoms.

Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent; it reduces the production of a protein that makes our immune systems work overtime.

Omega-3 fatty acids and green tea also have powerful qualities that reduce inflammation.

Flip the switch of oxidative stress in your body! Reverse the effects of oxidative stress on your body with the powerful antioxidants within our flagship product, Protandim Nrf2. Packed full of natural ingredients like turmeric, green tea, bacopa, milk thistle, and ashwagandha. These ingredients offer incredible anti-ageing effects to the body. And as noted before, reversing the oxidative stress in your body helps to reduce inflammation naturally.

Compression

Compression, immobilisation, and cold compress of the affected area will reduce inflammation. However, this only reduces the symptoms and not the underlying cause.
